The Federal Chancellery plays a central role in the Austrian government. This website contains a wealth of information about the work of the Austrian Chancellor as well as the wide range of duties and responsibilities of the Federal Chancellery.

This website also provides information about responsibilities and the separation of powers within the Austrian government, historic facts, and links to all Austrian Ministries.

On 2nd December 2008, the new Austrian Federal Government was sworn in by Federal President Heinz Fischer.

Duties and designations of the Federal Ministries are established on the basis of the amended ministerial law.

  • Austria loses triple-A rating

    The rating agency Standard & Poor's downgraded the creditworthiness of Austria and eight other euro-zone countries on 13 January 2012. Austria and France lost the top rating "AAA", dropping by one notch to AA+.

  • Klimt Year 2012

    To mark the 150th birthday anniversary of the "princely painter" Gustav Klimt (1862-1918), eight museums in Vienna present ambitious exhibitions showcasing about 800 works of the artist born in Baumgarten near Vienna on 14 July 1862.
